Back to my right-brain (or left?) review column. O.K. After Bright Star my next film was Kick Ass..this was one the brightest, most exuberant and casually brutal action films I’ve seen since Kill Bill..it was also extremely funny. I can say no more except it was without doubt a (*****) experience, the set pieces were fiendishly inventive, the narrative tight and it had moments of genuine hilarity mixed in with gorey horror, this is a film packed with mega kills and will no doubt the dvd will be paused in stoned giggling households for years to come. I then watched Iron Man 2, I found it to be daft, irritating and unlikeable..the cast were good with what they had and the action was competant and occasionally delightful. But I have to say I don’t really like the Iron Man films in general, I hate this implied macho empathy they seem to drum up with Tony Stark and there’s just so many tits and curves it’s obvious it’s streamlined directly for Empire magazines top shelf, (**). Ghost was a pacey but quiet thriller of considerable ingenuity. I liked the cast and I always like to see Pierce Brosnan in a meaty, classy role as the Priminister. The writer in question (Mcgregor) revealed information rather than concealed it which I thought turned scenes unexpectedly. It was monochrome, cold, deadly and pure, (*****). Bad Leiutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans. I have nothing to say but SEE IT NOW. Nick Cage mate…;) Pitch pitch black. (*****)!! So until my next 4 film round up see you soon! Three 5 star films in this bunch…can this be topped? x
